b. Qualifications

The test for admitting a person as an expert appears to be relaxed. Formal training or qualifications are not strictly required. A person can be admitted as an expert as long as the Court is satisfied that he or she possesses sufficient experience and knowledge in the particular area.

For example, a solicitor who conducted private study on handwriting can be permitted to give expert opinion on handwriting samples. Police officers who had acquired sufficient experience may be admitted as an expert on the average street value of drugs, or as an expert in gambling. A police officer who had viewed a large volume of CCTV footages may also be admitted as an expert for the purpose of identifying the accused in the footages.
