Firearms Licensing and Revocation

For armed officers, the legal authority to carry a weapon is an inherent requirement of their employment. Mental disability may cause the armed officers to fail the “fit and proper test” for them to hold a licence to carry firearms.

Section 33 of the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance (Cap. 238) empowers the Commissioner of Police to cancel a license (or internal authorization) if it is deemed that the holder is no longer a "fit and proper person".
