15. I have taken out several life insurance policies covering the same risk (on the life of the same person), can I claim for the death benefit under ALL life insurance policies?
For life insurance policies the position is that if there is nothing untoward (e.g. fraud or misrepresentation), the insurance company will be liable to pay in full regardless of there being other policies under which claims could also be made.
This position is in contradistinction with the case when a same risk under medical, personal injury and property insurance is covered by more than one insurance policy. For more details on this, please see question 7 of B. Medical Insurance.
