The offence of making etc imitation Hong Kong coins

Under section 104 of the Crimes Ordinance (Cap. 200), a person commits an offence if, as part of a scheme to promote the sale of any product or the supply of any service, they make, sell, distribute, or possess with intent to sell or distribute imitation Hong Kong coins without first obtaining written consent from the Monetary Authority to use such imitation coins in that scheme. 

 

“Hong Kong coin” means any coin that is legal tender in Hong Kong, and “imitation Hong Kong coin” means anything that resembles a Hong Kong coin in its shape, size, and the material from which it is made. The maximum penalty on summary conviction is 6 months in prison and a fine of HK$20,000.
