Offences of counterfeiting notes and coins

It would be an offence for any person making a counterfeit note and coin under section 98 of the Crimes Ordinance (Cap. 200). 

 

If a person makes a counterfeiting note or coin, intending that he or another to pass or tender the counterfeit as genuine, the maximum penalty would be 14 years’ imprisonment. 

 

Even if there is no intention to pass it as genuine, a person may still commit an offence if he makes the counterfeit without any lawful authority or excuse. The maximum penalty would be 3 years imprisonment.
