E. Discharging chemicals, oils, petroleum or trade waste into public sewers and drains

In addition to solid waste, section 6(d) of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance (Cap. 132) specifically prohibits the discharge of hazardous liquids into the public drainage system. Chemicals, oils, petroleum, or any trade waste must not be discharged into a public sewer or drain if those substances, either alone or when mixed with other matter, cause a nuisance or danger to the system or to people working within it. The offence is punishable by a fine of $50,000.

“Trade waste” is defined broadly as any waste resulting from a trade, manufacture, or business.
