3. Can employers elect to enter into a series of shorter employment contracts with breaks between them to avoid giving statutory benefits and entitlements to employees?

If employers elect to enter into a series of employment contracts with breaks between them, with mutual legally binding obligations on both sides to make and perform each contract, they will likely constitute a "global contract". If so, the continuous employment will not become "non-continuous" one solely due to the breaks. See: "Under what circumstances is there a break in the continuous employment?".
