If the deceased owned assets, the family must follow legal procedures to administer the estate in order to lawfully handle the deceased’s property and assets. These procedures include verifying whether a will exists, obtaining a “Grant of Probate” or “Letters of Administration” from the court, and subsequently distributing the assets.
